Wust el Balad

It was about 3:00 am on Eid el Adha’s eve, our day was over so till the Eid prayer there was nothing to do, just sit in a café and wait for the sunrise, I decided to take a friend and walk a little, while we were walking I saw it, standing right there in it’s beautiful black&white dress looking at me and saying “come on solom, you should get me”, I couldn’t say no to this so after a little mathematical calculation to see if there’s gonna be some money left to get me home I bought Wust el Balad’s album.
3:30 am, I got the keys from another friend, entered the car and played the cassette, for about 45 mins I just sat there and listened to the music, some songs like Antika, Band song made me raise up my voice and sing with them, thank allah that it was late and the streets were empty as people would’ve thought that I’m crazy and taken me to the “Yellow Palace” where I could have some peace
:D. The album is a piece of art, great music, meaningful lyrics, beautiful voices and it’s not just a product they make for money it’s what we can call a musical album.
That move came too late for Wust el Balad, they’ve been singing for about 7 years, their parties at “El Sakia” are always full, the have a huge number of fans also they inspired a lot of independent bands to go out there and prove themselves like they did, any way since the album is here and it’s good I’m gonna forgive them, now let’s cut the crap and present the album in a nutshell
:D
Side A
Arabily: it’s relatively a new song, they made a different distribution of it from the one they used to play at the parties, Hany is putting some of his special voices in this song.
Wust el balad (band song): this is a very funny one, when you hear it for the first time you get the feeling that this is an intro to a cartoon movie.
Shams el Nahar: fantastic music, they’re playing some greek music in it with very inspirational lyrics.
Antika: ahh, their master piece, they hardly do it’s vocal at the parties, they just play the music and the audiences sing (this song is one of the reasons that got me into them).
Yemken: I didn’t like it much but it’s not bad.
Side B
Hela Hop: it remindes me with “Hela Hela” and “Ya marakbi” of Mounib and later Mounir, a beautiful song.
A’am Mina: great lyrics, with a very beautiful ending.
Magnoun: they make some crazy sounds in it.
Etkalemy: like Yemken
Kol lel Maleha: a wonderful musical piece, the electrical and base guitars are very beautiful in it.
I’m sorry that this post came too late, the album was technically released last year (December 2007) but I had exams and a huge “System Analysis” situation that –thanks allah- ended happily in an unexpected way, I think that we should get this guy a medal or something

I haven’t listened to the album, but I saw “Arrabily”‘s video clip, and despite of Wust El Balad not being exactly “my cup of tea” but I have to admit that I kinda liked their music. It’s really different from all the pop crap being shoved down our throat, especially when it comes to Arabic music.
I’ll be looking forward to listen to the album. Too bad it’s not yet on Last.fm!
