The Dawn of Agouza

Most of “el 2alsh” that I used to get when I was young was “haha enta 2adem awy we saken fel agouza”, “heya el agouza kan esmaha eh 2bl ma tekbar”, “mesameyen share3 nawal, howa mafesh regala wala eh?” and some others, now I finally knew why it was called Agouza and why they called it Nawal street.
This is a diagram that sums it all
After Sherif Pacha died, Nazly Hanem was at the age of 90 and she decided to build a mosque to fulfill her husband’s wish, given her age at that time the people called this mosque (Al Agouza), so nonetheless Agouza refers to an old lady, and that later became the name of the whole district till now.
Little Nawal died at the age of 6, her father Abdel Rehim Pacha Sabry was so sad and he named his palace, Military Nasr Academy now, after her then the whole street which included the palace was named Nawal Street. I remember that in a comedy movie some one said “Share3 madam nawal belagouza” that’s technically impossible she couldn’t have married when she was 6.
